TOM CAT COLE
Artist: SUSAN STORY

Susan M. Story’s passion as an artist is to use the pastel medium to express the many moods and emotions of nature’s landscapes.  “I have always loved the feel of the pastels and the glorious range of colors.  Pastels allow the artist to create either a veil of subtle color or a very deliberate and bold line.”  Susan is recognized regionally and nationally for her paste landscapes.  A “Plein Air” painter, “I chose to work outside whenever possible so I can immerse myself in the sensual riches of nature.  There are constantly new perspectives to be discovered in the Hudson Valley and the incredible Catskill Mountains from any number of seldom traveled back roads.  I am determined to capture the essence of these little noticed and fast changing settings.  Nature is always in flux as is lighting, so the vistas never appear the same twice and continually provide new inspiration.  My goal is to capture the sense of the moment in my painting in order to preserve it and share it with others.”  Her vibrant colors and impressionist style are widely appealing and her paintings are consistently winning awards.

The Parsons School of Design graduate, worked in many different media while studying model and life drawing.  After receiving a degree in Fashion Design, she worked as a fashion, textile and embroidery designer in New York City and internationally for twelve years.  Her work included extensive travel to Europe and Asia.

In 1991Susan moved with her family to Rensselaerville.  Inspired by the surrounding countryside, Story is focusing on expressing her vision of nature in fine art.   She has studied annually at the Hudson River Valley Art Workshops since 1997.
